We, as Chartered Accountants, not only understand the gravity of this moment but also believe deeply that an UPRISE is both possible and essential.

Across the world, we have seen remarkable examples of nations rising from crisis to become beacons of resilience and progress. Germany rebuilt itself into an economic powerhouse from the ashes of war. Vietnam transitioned from isolation to become a manufacturing and export hub. South Korea evolved into a leader in technology and innovation. Finland, once in severe recession, reinvented itself through technology and human capital. Singapore, with almost no resources, became a global success story through vision, governance, and relentless skill development. These nations remind us that no country is destined to remain trapped by its circumstances.

Sri Lanka, too, must harness global insights from governance models, geopolitical strategy, economic reforms, and technological innovation, and transform them into local impact. We must reform policies, empower people through new skills, embrace new markets, and build global brands. If we fail to act now, we risk decline and irrelevance in an increasingly competitive world.

We call upon all stakeholders – government, private sector, academia, and civil society – to unite in shaping Sri Lanka’s future. And for us as Chartered Accountants, to truly UPRISE, we must broaden our perspective. We must understand the lessons from other nations, grasp the shifts in global trade, navigate evolving business models, and embrace technological changes. We need to develop a comprehensive understanding of the world around us, so we can lead with knowledge, purpose, and impact.

This year’s conference is built around that very need: to learn, to lead, and to transform. Chartered Accountants must lead this journey with integrity and expertise. Together, let us activate a national movement to transform global insight into local impact and build a resilient, thriving economy, and let us transform challenges into opportunities and ensure Sri Lanka not only survives but also thrives.
